Golf clubs are precisely engineered and need to be kept in pristine condition to deliver an accurate shot. Keeping golf clubs free from grit, sand and the smallest pieces of dirt is very important. The aim of the project is to develop an alternative, novel, effective and easier way to clean golf clubs.
The innovative ClubWhizz design utilises the rotation motion of the golf cart wheel in a circular brush to allow the golfer to clean clubs easily on course between shots. The biggest challenge of the design process was designing the device to be universal and able to fit all golf buggy wheels. One of the key aspects of the design is the adjustable tie strap system which allows it to be fully adjustable to different wheel sizes. The design also had to accommodate the need to occasionally use the device as a hand brush. The design team came up with a click and lock mechanism to allow the golfer to use the product for a range of on-course brushing needs. The resulting product is an innovative solution to a common golfing problem and engineered to suit all golfer’s requirements.
The outstanding design of the Club Whizz was recognised at the 2012 Design Institute of Australia (WA) Awards, where the product was awarded a Commendation Prize in the Industrial Design (Product Design) category.
