Cycling is a popular mode of transport, particularly in densely populated areas. However storage of bikes is often difficult given the space constraints in these areas. The project aim is to develop a bicycle rack that can be mounted to the wall to store bikes vertically without having to lift bikes onto a hook.
The challenge of the Steadyrack design was to create a rack that avoided having to lift bikes onto the wall. The innovative design uses the front wheel’s rotation to lift onto the rack and is suspended on the wall. Other space constraints led to innovative features of the design: it can be swivelled to suspend the bike at an angle closer to parallel to the wall, and when not using the rack for storage it can be tucked away flush to the wall. A simple innovation, coupled with an intelligent design, has led this product to commercial success on a number of continents around the globe.
